It's the annual Royal Selangor Club karaoke competition, one step before the inter club league. And I've been invited to cover the event. Well the truth is my fiancée's little sister Melissa Wang Jin Jing is in the finals and I'm the only one with a digital video camera in the family who's ever ready and willing to shoot any event. Plus, since my fiancée was abroad and unable to attend the function I was handed the responsibility of documenting the event for her later viewing pleasure.
The competition ran for about 3 hours and a 10 course Chinese dinner was served during the performances. There were approximately 15 contestants, (I'm sorry I can't be accurate because I was too busy drinking the sponsors beer) and the performances were mixed from duets to solos back to duets then back to solos again... very confusing!... :P
Melissa sang a very emotional chinese song for her solo performance. But as for her duet, she sang the very popular Endless Love, the 1981 single by Diana Ross & Lionel Richie and was accompanied by a gentlemen named Simon.
As the competition came to a close, Melissa Wang Jin Jing went home with the gold medal for the duet category and a second runners up medal for the solo effort. Indeed It was a fruitful day for this talented 19 year old singing vixen and now she has to make a crucial choice between doing a solo act for the inter club league or a duet.... or so I've been told... :D
